review: too faced chocolate bon bons palette

Too Faced owns my heart. At least lately. In the last several months, this brand has wowed me over and over again. Their holiday palettes....their mascara....their liquid lipsticks. Basically? Too Faced can do no wrong at the moment. Maybe that is why I was so quick to pick up the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette on Boxing Day. Somehow I knew this gorgeous palette would go into heavy rotation. And it has. Oh, it has.

Know those days where you need to get ready quickly? But you don't want your makeup to be boring? This is the palette that I reach for. The reasoning is simple. There are a ton of gorgeous neutrals in here. Light browns, medium browns, dark browns, purple toned browns. You name it. (This is a chocolate palette after all!) In addition to those brown shades there are also golds, light pinks, and shimmery nudes. Then to give the palette even more versatility there is a bright pink, a navy blue, and a sparkly purple. In addition to the fourteen shades there are two pretty highlight shades. One is shimmery and the other matte. Talk about covering your bases.

That? Is what I love most about the palette. There are matte shades and shimmery shades. That gives it a ton of versatility. Pair that with the variety of colours, the two highlights, and the incredible pigmentation? It is a flawless makeup item in my opinion. Plus there is the cute packaging to consider. It comes in a pink mental tin. On the outside it really does look like a chocolate bar. So cute. It is compact and easy to store. It is sturdy. And the shadows are fantastic. If you are looking for something new to add to your collection....make sure it is the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette.

my order experience: Miss A

Honestly? The majority of my shopping is done in a physical store. I love the immediacy of seeing the item, buying the item, and taking it home with me. There are plenty of advantages to online shopping, though. Like increased variety and lower prices. So even though I prefer to shop in an actual store....I do a bit of online shopping every now and again. Most recently? It was from the website Miss A. Emily from the YouTube channel, Beauty Broadcast posted a video a while back about her experience buying $1 makeup items from Miss A. Yes, $1. Needless to say, the concept was intriguing to me. Especially with the amount of money I tend to spend on new makeup. I figured this was a great opportunity to try out some new things without breaking the bank.

It was. Everything you see in the picture above cost me $15 CDN. Including shipping. So....what did I buy? A Pearl Brightening and Firming Face Mask (this was super soothing), an LA Colors Lip Trio Lipstick in Trilogy (this is my favourite thing from the bunch. Three different shades. One tube. Totally stunning and comfortable on the lips), four bright lipsticks (there was a light blue, a dark blue, a yellow, and a green. Overall these were fun to play with but had a harder texture that I did not like), a heart shaped eyeshadow palette in blue (this is amazing! the colours are shockingly pigmented and look absolutely beautiful. I love it!), a pair of dangling pearl earrings (they have Hello Kitty's on them. So cute), an arrow ring (this is stunning. I was actually wearing it when I met Donny Osmond in Niagara Falls), a Pearly Eyeshadow Stick (the formula is nice but the shade was not flattering on me at all), a Mineral Blush (so pigmented and pretty! Obsessed), and a Wet/Dry Baked Eyeshadow (it is so shimmery).

The products were hit and miss. Some were incredible and others were just okay. But the great thing? At $1 a piece....there was really no disappointment. It was fun trying them out. And knowing that they didn't cost me an awful lot. There were a lot of things in this order that I have wound up loving and using a lot. So overall my order experience was a positive one. You can't beat the price or the unique selection. The only downside was the wait time. It took over a month for my order to arrive - and it did not even ship for two plus weeks after I placed it.

So be aware. If you are looking for cheap makeup to try out? You will love Miss A. If you want your makeup quickly? This is definitely not for you. Interested? Check out http://www.shopmissa.com/ to see what they have in stock.

Have you tried this store before?

the roar is all around me. a rush of rainbow and mist.

It seems like only yesterday my parents and I visited Niagara Falls. It was a late summer trip. The last before my wedding. Now? My mom and I have just returned from another weekend getaway in Niagara. Normally we would not dream of going in the middle of winter. However, Donny Osmond was scheduled to play a handful of shows at Fallsview Casino. Jumping on the chance to see him again, we bought tickets for two of the three shows.

It was an unforgettable trip. We didn't get to do a lot of sightseeing. It was absolutely freezing. After waiting twenty minutes for a local bus we were shaking like crazy. It was just too cold to do much of anything. Mostly we checked out the hotel, went to a few restaurants, did some shopping at the outlet mall, and of course, saw Donny Osmond. The first concert was fantastic. He put on a great show. It was energetic, fun, and full of incredible stories. He took the time to look back on career highlights and sing some of his best songs. (Including my personal favourite, "Whenever You're In Trouble.")

The trip was going exactly as planned. Until the second show. There was part of the performance where he asked you to write on his Facebook page with your seat number and why you wanted a copy of his latest CD. I already owned it but my mom wanted her own copy and we couldn't manage to track it down anywhere. So I wrote on his Facebook page. Imagine my surprise when Donny Osmond calls out MY name in the middle of the concert. Before I knew what was happening, I was heading towards the stage. Towards Donny.

My whole body was shaking. I thought for a second I might start to cry. Especially as I got closer and closer to him. He asked me where I was from. I couldn't remember. It took me a second to recall. Then he told me that in addition to the CD he was going to give me a backstage pass. To say the moment was surreal would be a total understatement. Even as I write this I am struggling to believe it actually happened. But it did.

I spent the rest of the show shaking and trying to think of what I wanted to say. Once the show was over we dealt with the madness. Trying to figure out where to go. Ignoring the glares of envious Donny fans crammed in front of the doors. (Though to be fair, a few people were very nice and told me to have a great time!) The whole time we waited my heart was beating like crazy. All I could think about was the fact that my hair looked awful. We had been out all day dealing with snow and rain. So I just threw it into a ponytail and reminded myself that Donny would never see my hair. Ha! How wrong that turned out to be.

Eventually we were called into the room with Donny. I was shaking so hard. I can't quite remember all of the details. But he asked my name again, where I was from, and if I had Twitter. He asked if we were heading back tonight or staying overnight. I think I said that I love him. And apologized for freaking out. He then said hi to my mom. We took a picture together on my phone - then on his. He asked me to spell my name and Twitter handle. Watching him type that into my phone...to say my name...it was totally surreal. Then he took a picture with me and my mom and we said our goodbyes. It was only five minutes but it was amazing.

Never in a million years did I expect to meet Donny Osmond that night. But it was amazing. That experience took the vacation from fun to downright incredible. I only wish that my mom had been able to talk to him more. I know she would have loved that. Overall? The trip to Niagara Falls was pretty darn special. I am so glad we were able to go.

Have you done any travelling lately?

true happiness is a bottle of perfume.

My perfume shelf? Way too full. It is only recently that I realized just how extensive my perfume collection is. How did it happen? I picked up this cute little fragrance set and went to place the spray bottle on my shelf. Only to find there was no room. Not one inch. Ultimately I decided to precariously stack the small bottle on top of another. But that is certainly not a long term solution. Especially knowing my habit for picking up perfume whenever possible.

I wear perfume every single day. It isn't that they aren't getting used. I just prefer variety! There is something calming about the process. I'll pick up bottle after bottle to find the perfect scent for the day. One that represents how I feel. What I want to express. Who I am. That is the power of perfume. The right scent completes your look and gives you an extra boost of confidence as you start your day.

It's true. This little fragrance set made me realize just how many scents there are in my collection already. But....that isn't the only reason it is significant. The smell is fabulous. It is called Stunner and it certainly lives up to its name. The scent is light, pretty, and floral. Definitely what I would consider to be a girly scent. Slightly romantic and very easy to wear. This is the kind of perfume that I would reach for during the day or for a comfy night in with someone special. It is wonderful!

This set came with three products altogether. The perfume itself (which is a fairly small bottle. The only downside!) along with a scented hand sanitizer and a shower cream. Those were some really nice extras to include with the fragrance. I love throwing the hand sanitizer into my purse when I go out for the day. It's always nice to have on hand. That means smelling great on the go.

Stunner is such a lovely scent. I love the set, I love the smell, and I love the simplicity of the packaging. The only thing I do not love? The lack of space on my perfume shelf! With fragrances like this lurking around every corner....there is no way I'll be able to stop my habit. Oh well....at least I will always smell good!

Have you tried this scent? What is your favourite perfume?

i've seen it raining fire in the sky.

It's strange. Nature has never been my favourite thing. I am more of an indoor person....choosing the peace and comfort that controlled heating provides. Any opportunity to stay inside is an opportunity I will take. The truth? Earlier this month I had three days off of work in a row. While I accomplished a lot - from cleaning to writing and a million tasks on my to do list - I never left my house. For three days. Yes, I am definitely an indoor person. Which is why it is puzzling that I have been so inspired by nature lately. By striking images, cool wind on my face, and the way sunshine makes fallen snow sparkle. There is so much beauty in the world. And I want to experience all of it.

Nature has become a real source of inspiration to me. For much of the month, I have felt very connected to the earth and all it has to offer. Which is why I have found myself saving photo after photo of nature-themed fashion editorials. There is something striking about high-end clothes, dramatic hair, and bold makeup.....clashing against a postcard worthy backdrop. It has been a very long time since I did an old fashioned inspiration post. So, that is what this blog post is all about. Inspiration, beauty, and of course, nature.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high,
I've seen it raining fire in the sky.
The shadows from the starlight are softer than a lullaby.
Rocky Mountain high, Colorado. Rocky Mountain high.

My life has been full of inspiration lately. And that has been a truly wonderful feeling. I hope these photos have inspired you - or brought a little light to your day.

What inspires you? Do you like these pictures?

YouTube: Bold and Bright Lipstick Try On

You might remember a recent post. It highlighted some of the makeup items I received for Christmas. There were eyeshadows, liners, and even a few lip products. The most noteworthy? The eight lipsticks from Femme Lipstick KleanColor. It was love at first sight. Honestly, I was overwhelmed by all of those incredible bright shades. The reason? Lately I have been branching out with lipstick. Grabbing green, blue, purple, and anything else I can get my hands on. So these were a makeup dream come true.

The colours themselves are super inspirational. They make me want to push myself creatively, try new things, and really get out of my neutral-colours-only mentality. Despite how bright and bold they are....these lipsticks have been getting an awful lot of use lately. Especially that light blue. I find it shockingly easy to wear. And I confess: it is my favourite of the bunch. Since I have been feeling so loved up about these lipsticks, I thought I would give you all a closer look.

My YouTube channel has a brand new video. It is a Bold and Bright Lipstick Try On featuring there oh-so-gorgeous shades. See what they look like in action on the creation of beauty is art. YouTube channel.

Makeup has always been a huge source of inspiration to me. I love the way it can transform you on the outside....and the inside. It is a powerful tool. And an amazing way to express who you are. These lipsticks have been on my love list lately. The reasoning is simple. They make me excited to do my makeup. That is always an incredible feeling.

What do you think of these shades? Which is your favourite?

review: annabelle cosmetics #abcolourpower

One of the best things about the holiday season? All of the amazing makeup sets. Brands high and low release special limited edition items. No matter how hard I try to resist, at least two or three of them wind up in my makeup collection. This happened when I came across a small set from Annabelle Cosmetics. This is not a drugstore brand I have a lot of experience with. There is no particular reason. Their products look nice - but failed to really grab my attention. So when I saw a little cosmetic bag for $10 CDN it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get to know the brand a little bit better.

The #ABcolourpower cosmetics bag included four products. And of course that super cute little makeup bag. What were they? The Twist Up Retractable Lipstick Crayon in Rock & Rose, the Big Show Nail Polish in Barely Groupie, the Kohl Eyeliner in Black, and the Skin True Bronzer in Caribbean Tan. That is one thing I really enjoyed about this little set. For $10 you get to try out four different full sized products. It covers eyes, skin, lips, and nails. That in itself gives you a great overview of their collection. Perfect for a newbie like me!

Below is a picture of the contents of the #ABcolourpower cosmetics bag. The lip crayon, bronzer, eyeliner, and nail polish. Take a peek at the products I was able to try out.....

Twist Up Retractable Lipstick Crayon in Rock & Rose. Let's start with the lip crayon. This is one of the products that I was most excited to try out. It looked absolutely beautiful in the packaging. So pretty and pink. Which is totally up my alley. Here's the thing. I really wanted to like this. In fact, I thought that this would be the stand out product from the set. It wasn't. And here is why. The colour looks beautiful in the tube. Wearing it? Not so much. The colour is a pretty pink....but it has this frosted 80s finish to it. The end result was less than flattering. Not sure how much use I will get out of this one. Such a let down!

Big Show Nail Polish in Barely Groupie. Nail polish is something I am slowly getting back into. For a long while I wasn't able to wear it at work. Now that I can? I've been constantly trying to do a little more with my nails. It just makes me feel good. The polish in this set is a sheer rosy pink and is super pretty. In terms of pigmentation though this is a sheer shade. Keep that in mind before you buy. You will need to apply a lot of layers or keep it nice and natural. In my opinion, that makes this a so-so product.

Kohl Eyeliner in Black. Eyeliner is my biggest must have makeup product. There is rarely a day that I am not wearing at least a little bit. So you can imagine that I tend to be pretty picky about what I do and do not like. I admit that there are a few favourites in my rotation (like the Hard Candy Walk The Liner liner, the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, and the Flower Beauty Eye2Eye Liner). But this kohl liner totally wowed me. It was creamy, easy to use, and stays exactly where you put it. Liquid/pen liners are my favourite to use....but this pencil liner was absolutely wonderful. I've been using it to create some super smokey eye looks. This one is definitely a winner in my books.

Skin True Bronzer in Caribbean TanBased on the other three products this set would have been just okay for me. Some things I liked, some I didn't, and some were just okay. Then this bronzer came into my life. Going into it I was not super optimistic. There are already a ton of bronzers in my collection. Matte, shimmer, cream, and everything else you could imagine. But then Caribbean Tan happened. It is the perfect bronzer. By far the best one I have ever used. The colour is soft and flattering but still packs a punch. The texture is smooth and buttery. Love, love, love. Lately I have been using this as a quick contour and as a gorgeous blush shade.

Overall, this makeup set left me smiling. Not because all of the products inside were fantastic....but because two truly exceed my expectations. They have actually become a regular part of my beauty routine. What more could I possibly ask for? Who knows....maybe I will try out more Annabelle Cosmetics products in the future.

Have you tried anything from Annabelle?

boxing day shopping: mini haul

We all have our traditions. For my mom and I? It is to go shopping on Boxing Day. Even if we don't really need anything...or don't feel like going out....it is something we do. Just because! In a way, it extends the holiday just a little bit longer. I think we both like that idea. Especially since Christmas always seems to zoom by.

Today I wanted to show you what I bought on Boxing Day. I know this post is a little bit late but I am still catching up on life, it seems! Finally I got around to photographing everything and putting it all away. There are a few pieces from Ardene's, the Disney Store, H&M, Sephora, and even Wal Mart. Because it just wouldn't be Boxing Day without picking up a few cheap DVDs. There are a few other things I bought this year (like a gingerbread onesie) but they have already been worn and are currently sitting in my laundry hamper. Oops! So without further ado, here is my Boxing Day mini haul.....

It was a really fun day. My mom and I were pretty careful about what we bought. We stuck to sales and heavily discounted items only. Then we got a tasty lunch and gabbed for hours. Afterward, my dad came to pick us up and dropped me back off at the apartment. (That was weird. I am still not used to being dropped off rather than going home with them.) Later that night, my husband and I went to see his family for a holiday dinner. Overall? It was a special day that I smile remembering.

How did you spend Boxing Day? Have you bought anything recently?

don't let your day be a waste of makeup.

January is in full swing ....but I am still dealing with the holiday aftermath. There is glitter all over the carpet, decorations lining the shelves, and Christmas presents just waiting to be used. See, some people take everything down the moment January 1st hits. I couldn't bear to do it! Chances are the apartment will be back to normal by the end of this week. Sigh. While the tree is still gorgeous and glowing, I have finally started to find spots for the wonderful gifts I received over the holiday season.

It started with makeup. I was eager to put away all of the makeup I was given. And of course, find an excuse to use it all. Before giving each item its proper spot I thought that I would show you some of the things I was given. Lips, eyes, face, and more. Nothing like being spoiled on Christmas morning! Here is a mini haul of holiday makeup items.....

One of my absolute favourite things? This collection of lipsticks from Femme Lipstick. This past year has certainly been one of adventure in terms of lip colours. I want to try it all! Bright colours, unwearable shades, and everything in between. There is nothing more exciting to me than trying to rock a green lipstick or add a bold pop with a vibrant purple. My mom knows me all too well and gifted me eight incredible lip products. (Pictured above.) Green, gold, sky blue, dark blue, deep purple, bright purple, baby pink, and fuchsia. I. Am. Obsessed. In fact, I have an upcoming YouTube video dedicated to these incredible lippies. Stay tuned!

Next up? Another awesome set of gifts from my Mom. She and I often bond over makeup so it is usually her who gives me beauty products for Christmas. This time she gave me a gorgeous Jay Manuel lipstick, an eyeshadow quad, and a stunning turquoise liner. The eyeshadows are all blues and greens (the quad is called, Ocean) and I am really excited to try it out. Since one of my resolutions this year was to play with colour more frequently...these products are beyond perfect.

This next handful of makeup items came inside of my Christmas cracker. This year, the girls in the family opted for a non-traditional cracker. We got a selection of makeup instead of a shoe horn and paper crown. While I did miss the paper crown and corny jokes, the makeup was super exciting to receive. I got a gold single eyeshadow and a pink nude lip gloss. Both are from Quo and are absolutely beautiful! Definitely a nice treat.

The last beauty item that I wanted to show you was this set from Aveda. It is a sampler with some of their most popular face and body products. It has straightening cream, hair oil, body lotion, and a few other odds and ends. Since I am a total product junkie, this was very exciting to open up. Now I get to try out six of their products. So far so good. Already I am certain that I will be buying a full sized version of the Body Creme. It smells divine and is super relaxing.

Want to see some of the other items I was given for Christmas? Then take a look at my latest video for the creation of beauty is art. YouTube channel. This is my own What I Got For Christmas post!

Makeup is a massive part of my life. So it is always nice to be given some around the holidays. Now to put it all to good use in 2016....

Were you given any makeup for Christmas?

my beauty resolutions for 2016.

It is that time of year. Everyone is thinking about the weeks and months to come. The beginning of a new year always seems to do that. To put every aspect of our lives into sharp focus. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Which is why New Years Resolutions are so common. They are a way for us to think about what we want from life. And to start putting a plan of action together. For years I have made - and broken - resolution after resolution. So, why do I keep making them? Because there is something beautiful about dreams, hopes, and aspirations. Whether they come to pass or not. Those positive intentions put positive energy into the world. That? Is a pretty great thing.

I have come up with a few resolutions for 2016. There are a few that have to do with fitness (I confess....I stopped working out in December and ate everything in sight. As per usual!) and a few that have to do with my career (like being more focused and determined). Some? Well some are actually beauty related. Since this blog is about fashion and beauty, I thought that I would share the latter with you all. Who knows? Maybe you will see a few on my life that match you own!

These are my beauty resolutions for 2016.....

Every year I make new resolutions. Some personal, some professional, and yes, even a few beauty related ones! This year I made the decision to step up my beauty game. Sure there are go-to looks that I love...but my goal is to push myself in new and exciting ways. Hopefully these resolutions will inspire me to do just that.

What are your resolutions for 2016? Did you make any beauty related ones?

all was right with the world.

This was my first Christmas not living at home. And of course, my first Christmas being married. It was wonderful to spend the morning with my husband....creating our own special holiday traditions. We opened gifts and ate chocolate by the glow of the tree. All while Bing Crosby played in the background. Pure bliss! The only downside? I missed all of my family traditions. Like waking up way too early. My brother and I looking through our stockings. And the sound of my dad turning on the coffee maker. It felt strange to be a guest in the house that was mine for so long.

I guess I have always struggled with change. It took me a long time to settle into the apartment and get used to my new home. Now that Christmas is over and we have celebrated our first holiday here? It finally feels like ours. So that was nice. This Christmas was different in so many ways......yet the same, too. My husband was working on Christmas Eve so I went to my parents house to bake, listen to music, watch movies, and see the lights around the neighbourhood. I think I appreciate those moments even more now. Does that make sense?

As for Christmas morning....it was a total blur. The hubby and I had our own Christmas celebration at the apartment. Then it was off to his parents house and then to my own. After opening gifts, he went back to his parents for Christmas dinner and I stayed with my family. Yes....it was definitely different. I am used to waking up, putting on my PJs, and not moving from the living room couch. This year there were a lot of moving pieces. Now that it is all over? I confess, I am a little sad. I usually am at this time of year. Christmas holds such a special place in my heart. It always makes me sad when the lights dim and the yuletide cheer fades away. Sigh.

So, today's post is much needed. I wanted to share with you some of my favourite snaps from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If only because it makes me smile to look at them again.....

It's over. The holiday season is behind us and it is back to the same old routines. There is something very bittersweet about that. But to paraphrase my husband, "Christmas needs to go away so you can appreciate it again next year." Smart, huh?

How did you celebrate Christmas this year? Share your stories!

hand in hand together.

A new year has just begun. With it there is so much hope and optimism. This is the time of year where people pledge to make change, live life to the fullest, and appreciate moments big and small. Despite the fact that many of us tend to fall into old habits by the time January comes to a close....I love the beauty and promise of a fresh start.

With 2015 behind us it is fun to look back and realize just how much has changed. How much we have grown. How much stronger we have become. Recently I have been pausing to reflect on my own year. I went from engaged to married. I moved out of my parents house. I created a life for myself with the man I love. If nothing else, 2015 was a certainly a year of transition. Perhaps that is why I am so excited about the new year.

I spent much of my time planning, packing, unpacking, and trying to establish a regular routine. Life felt busy and hectic a lot of the time. Now? I finally feel like things have calmed down. I am settling into my new normal. And I have big plans for the months ahead. 2016 is still sparkling with possibilities. My only hope is those possibilities come to fruition.

There is another reason that I am looking back today. It isn't just about the start of a new year. What is it? Today marks my six month wedding anniversary. That seems very strange to write. It feels like we only just tied the knot. But somehow life has been zooming by and we have reached that first milestone. It makes me smile to think of our first six months together. Living together, becoming a family, and taking care of one another. It is better than I ever imagined it would be. There are moments where I truly hope that old saying is true. You know, how the first year of marriage is the hardest. Because if the first six months are any indication....life is good.

I know this post is not related to beauty or fashion in any way. However, I wanted to mark this special occasion. To express the love, joy, and gratitude in my heart. This post marks six months as man and wife. Here is to many more months (and years) living hand in hand.

YouTube: Demo + Review - Wet n Wild Stay Wild Eyeshadow Trios

We all have our favourite makeup brands. Mine are spread between drugstore and high end. Sometimes I am willing to splurge on an expensive item....and other times I am desperately searching for a bargain. Well when it comes to saving money (without skimping on quality) I tend to reach for Wet n Wild. Over the years, I have tried many of their products with an awful lot of success. Not all of them took my breath away. But their eyeshadows? They have never let me down. Well....until now.

Imagine my delight as I walked through the makeup section of my local drugstore. Not only was there a new Wet n Wild display.....but there were four limited edition eyeshadow trios! Four sparkly and shimmery shadows at that. Just in time for winter. Honestly? I was so excited about these Stay Wild trios that it is a little embarrassing. I literally could not wait to get home and start swatching.

And then I did. And the shadows? Were not what I expected. My makeup collection has an awful lot in it from Wet n Wild. Namely the eyeshadow palettes and trios. They are some of my all time favourites. Whether it be drugstore or high end. I just love the texture, pigmentation, and consistency.  They feel so luxurious even though the price tag is crazy affordable. Which is why the Stay Wild shadows were so surprising. Find out how they swatched, how they felt, and if they made my makeup regret list.....

There you have it. The Wet n Wild Stay Wild collection was a total hit and miss. Some shadows performed well while others were a complete waste of space. Sigh. My expectations were high. Especially with how beautiful they looked in the pan.

Did you try any of these Wet n Wild trios? What did you think of them?
